2012 Award Descriptions

Minnesota Campus Compact Presidents’ Awards
UMD's Office of Civic Engagement facilitates the process for these awards. UMD is a member institution of Minnesota Campus Compact and is therefore eligible to recognize award recipients in the categories below. The Minnesota Campus Compact Presidents’ Awards provide an opportunity for member presidents and chancellors to give statewide recognition to effective leaders in the development of campus-community partnerships.  Acknowledgment of outstanding collaborative work will not only inform and inspire tomorrow’s campus-community partnerships, but will also play a critical role in garnering support for higher education’s civic engagement initiatives.  Each president from a Minnesota Campus Compact member institution may recognize one honoree in each of the following three award categories:

UMD MNCC Student Leadership Award
This award is for an individual student or a student organization that models a deep commitment to civic responsibility and leadership, evidenced by initiative, innovative and collaborative approaches to addressing public issues, effective community building, and integration of civic engagement into the college experience.

UMD MNCC Civic Engagement Steward Award
This award is for a member of the faculty, administration, or staff or for a group (e.g., advisory committee, task force, project team) that has significantly advanced their campus’ distinctive civic mission by forming strong partnerships, supporting others’ civic engagement, and working to institutionalize a culture and practice of engagement.

UMD MNCC Community Partner Award
This award is for a community-based organization that has enhanced the quality of life in the community in meaningful and measurable ways and has engaged in the development of sustained, reciprocal partnerships with the college or university, thus enriching educational as well as community outcomes.

Please use this form to complete your nomination. Further instructions are included in the form.

2012 Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement for Early Career Faculty

The annual Lynton Award recognizes a faculty member who is pre-tenure at tenure-granting campuses or early career (i.e., within the first six years) at campuses with long-term contracts and who connects his or her teaching, research, and service to community engagement. The award emphasizes community-based scholarly work across faculty roles. It represents an integrated view of faculty roles in which teaching, research/creative activity, and service overlap and are mutually reinforcing, is characterized by scholarly work tied to a faculty member's expertise, is of benefit to the external community, is visible and shared with community stakeholders, and reflects the mission of the institution.

Nominations can be made by academic colleagues, administrators, students, and community partners. The Office of Civic Engagement does not require nominations to be submitted to the office - the OCE is simply making this award information available. Please visit this link to learn more about the award and to submit an application.
