Community Connect (formerly known as Project Homeless Connect)

A task force of the “Heading Home St. Louis County—Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness Committee” hosted Community Connect in Duluth on October 20th at the Washington Center in Duluth. Community Connect, formerly known as Project Homeless Connect, works to engage the general public toward innovative solutions to end homelessness. The primary goal of this effort is to consolidate available services and connect individuals to benefits, medical care, substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling and a variety of social services, which can help lead to pathways to housing self sufficiency. Numerous city departments, non-profit agencies, and thousands of committed individuals in communities across the country have participated to date in this growing, grassroots program to help individuals who need it most.

Here are some ways to get involved with the event:
First, there will be a fundraiser on April 10, 2012, held at the Duluth Depot for a CREATIVE EXPRESSION CONTEST.   We want to involve students with various artistic talents.  See below for beginning details if students want to do a project to submit in the spring for the contest.  If the student would like, they can also submit their work for a silent auction that will be held at the event.

Second, if students or faculty/staff would like to volunteer at Community Connect in the future (fall 2012), contact Laura DeRosier. She is the Housing and Homeless Coordinator for St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services. She can be reached at 725-5236 or
derosierl - at - stlouiscountymn.gov.
