Pre-Law Academic Programs and Courses at UMD

UMD has no specific Pre-Law major. However, the Public Policy concentration of the Political Science major does have a "Law and Policy" track that offers an opportunity to focus your studies in law-related courses.

You should know that law schools do not expect or even encourage students to major in "Pre-Law" or any other specific preparatory area of study. The first rule here is to study what most interests you.

That said, taking a number of law-related courses at the undergraduate level is not a bad way to begin to think about whether you are interested in a career in the law. Below is a list of law-related courses at UMD as well as information about the Law and Policy track in the Political Science Department's Public Policy concentration.
