UMD Police assisted Duluth Police on a check welfare call that began at 11:17 a.m. today (April 25, 2012), after a friend of a UMD student reported receiving a text message from this individual indicating that the student may be suicidal.
Duluth Police went to the individual’s off-campus apartment to check on his welfare, and he was not there. UMD Police looked up the student’s course schedule and located him attending his scheduled class in Cina Hall, the student was taken to the hospital.
The student did not make any threats towards others on campus, and he was not armed.
Members of the UMD crisis response team assembled and were prepared to put the campus on alert had the situation warranted.
