MARK "WALLY" OLSON
Mark "Wally" Olson, 47 a dedicated professor at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Died Friday, May 17, 2002 at his home in rural Duluth.
Mark was born Octorber 4, 1954 in Eau Claire to Roland and Carol
(Petersen) Olson. He graduated from Elevstrum Centeral High School
in 1972. He received his bachelor's degree in psychology from the
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1976 and his doctorate in
psychology from the University of Oklahoma-Norman, where he taught
while earning his degree, in 1980. Mark taught at the University
of Iowa-Iowa City for two years and at Coe College in Cedar Rapids,
IA for seven years. For the past 12
years he has been on the faculty at the University of Minnesota-Duluth
where he recently earned the award for Outstanding Faculty Member
of the Year. In his free time he enjoyed shoeing horses, spending
time with nature, music and the arts.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol; maternal Gradparents, Myron and Olive Pertersen; paternal grandfather, Melvin Olson.
He is survived by his father, Ronald of Strum; his sister, Karen (Joe) Sanders of Janesville; paternal grandmother, Florence Olson of Strum and several aunts, uncles and cousins; special friend, Nicole Nowak of Virginia, MN; and his faithful companion, Shei Shei.
Service: Memorial service was held 6:30 PM Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Schiefelbein Funeral Home, Strum, with Rev. Steven Edmiston oficiating.
