Jacob "Jack" Hautaluoma, Fort Collins, Colo., was part of a four-person team sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce who conducted a feasibility study late last year on extracting metals, minerals, and oil from Afghanistan. The study was for a Center of Excellence for the Afghanistan Extractive Industries. Its primary goal is that the industries of mining, quarrying and oil drilling could become a basis of a sound economy for the country and benefit the Afghan people. Helga J. Larsen Wallner, Duluth, Minn., presently chairs the Saint Luke's Foundation Board and serves on the board for the Lighthouse for Low Vision. Carl Gawboy, Duluth, Minn., has co-written a book, Ancient Earth and the First Ancestors: A Cultural and Geological Journey, which received the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award (NEMBA) for the best book of 2011 in the general nonfiction category. Dr. Clark C. Peterson, Hinkley, Minn., is a professional announcer and writer for the "Corn and Clover Festival" in Hinkley. He was chosen as the Grand Marshall of the Hinkley Carnival Centennial Parade. 1984 »Jeffrey M. Hillis, Neenah, Wis., is an established design professional for Directions Marketing and was recently awarded the grand prize in a design competition entitled "Project 2020" through the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI). 1986 »Chris Dahlberg, Duluth, Minn., was appointed by the Saint Louis County Board to a six-year term on the Duluth Seaway Port Authority Board of Commissioners. 1987 »Thomas DeGree recently moved his business, Wilde Roast Cafe, to a bigger location in Minneapolis. 1988 »Ken Johnson, Duluth, Minn., is currently the chief operating officer at North Shore Bank of Commerce. Christy Montour-Larson, Denver, Colo., is the producer-in-residence for the Curious Theatre Company. She recently directed 9 Circles by Bill Cain and the regional premiere of Red by John Logan. She was nominated for the Theatre Person of the Year and awarded Best Season for a Director by the Denver Post. 1994 »Jeffrey J. "Jesse" Bowden, Wentzville, Colo., is currently the president of imaging services at Biomedical Systems. 2000 »Colin B. Anderson, Duluth, Minn., is a certified public accountant and was recently hired by Moline Machinery LLC as chief financial advisor. Colin has worked as a CPA in public accounting and in the financial industry in Duluth and Minneapolis for the past 11 years. 2002 »Megan M. (Kingsley) Gale, Bremington, Wash., received her master's degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine in 2006 from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Wash., and is now practicing health care as an East Asian medicine practitioner and acupuncturist. Megan is also an advisor to Acupuncturists Without Borders Military Stress Recovery Project. Todd Huebert, Saint Paul, Minn., currently works for the Metro Wastewater treatment plant in Saint Paul. Daniel F. Hartman, Duluth, Minn., works as a city councilor and was included in a documentary in March called Lost Duluth on WDSE-TV. 2008 »Dan Neff, Duluth, Minn., recently opened Lake Superior Art Glass, an art gallery in downtown Duluth. 2011 »Shannon Kesner, Cloquet, Minn., is the wetland specialist for Fond du Lac Resource Management Environmental Department. 2012 »Addy Brickweg, Duluth, Minn., is now working in the Student Affairs Office for the UMD College of Liberal Arts.
