The University of Minnesota Duluth BRIDGE - Winter 2006, Volume 23, #1 BULLDOG BITES
To commemorate a milestone year for UMD men's basketball, 15 individuals who played prominent roles in the growth, development and success of the storied Bulldog program were chosen to make up a 75th Anniversary Team. The group was honored during halftime at UMD's North Central Conference clash with the University of South Dakota on February 4 in the Romano Gymnasium. Dave Baker (1957-61 · Duluth), Barry Fermanich (1988-92 · Antigo, Wis.), Jay Guidinger (1987-91 · Milwaukee, Wis.), Jeff Guidinger (1983-87 · Milwaukee, Wis.), Roger Hanson (1961-65 · Duluth), Nicky Johnson (1979-83 · Milwaukee, Wis.), Rockne Johnson (1978-80 · Duluth), Kendall Kelly (1982-86 · Milwaukee, Wis.), the late Bill Mattson (1958-62 · Virginia, Minn.), Chris Neumann (1980-84 · Milwaukee, Wis.), Mike Patterson (1961-65 · Mahtomedi, Minn), Josh Quigley (1995-2000 · Duluth), Jon Sampson (1955-59 · Duluth), Jason Schneeweis (1999-2003 · Hubertus, Wis.) and David Thompson (1984-88 · Hibbing, Minn.) joined the team, which was selected by a vote from UMD basketball alumni. "Over 400 players have worn the Bulldog uniform since 1930 and these 15 distinguished individuals represent the best in UMD basketball," said UMD head coach Gary Holquist. "The impact they've had on our program is immeasurable and being singled out by their peers is recognition of their accomplishments." Men's basketball, which has been in existence longer than any other intercollegiate sport at UMD, is celebrating its 75th season of competition in 2005-06. -- Bob Nygaard, UMD Athletics.
