Access to student educational records

Policy

In accordance with regents' policy on access to student records and in accordance with federal law, information about you generally may not be released to a third party without your permission. (Exceptions under the law include state and federal educational and financial aid institutions.)

The regents' policy permits you to review your educational records and to challenge the contents of those records. You are notified annually of your right to review your educational records.

Students are advised that disciplinary action will be taken if academic records are forged or altered.

The regents' policy, including a directory of student records, and grievance procedures, is available for review at the Office of Financial Aid and Registrar, Darland Administration Building.

  • Make an appointment at the Student Assistance Center, 23 Solon Campus Center, with the Associate Registrar. Some records are archived, so allow one week for retrieval.

  • or write to:
    Associate Registrar
    139 Darland Administration Building
    1049 University Drive
    Duluth, Minnesota 55812-3011

NOTE: Because of privacy legislation, students requesting transcripts or seeking information about their records must write or come directly to the Office of Financial Aid and Registrar; no phone requests will be accepted.

You also have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education.
