Tuition Refund Petition Guidelines
The petition process begins in the collegiate student affairs office.
Petitions must be received by the August 31 deadline for the academic
year, or they are automatically denied.
Approved petitions will receive tuition refunds (75%, 50%, 25%, or 0%) based on
the amount of time spent in class. Ws will remain on the academic record.
The 100% refund with removal of Ws from the transcript is reserved for
exceptional cases.
Petitions must have supporting documentation written on official letterhead
stationery, or they are returned to the student.
The Medical Supplement for Exceptions to Tuition Refund Policy form is required for petitions based on medical conditions—be sure to attach it to your University of Minnesota Duluth Petition.
Petitions are accepted only from the student. Petitions submitted by
parents or third parties are accepted only in an extraordinary situation,
such as a serious illness or missing person.
