The UMD Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) integrates with business and non-profit communities in the region in two ways:

For students, theory and practice come together through experiential learning opportunities such as internships, career shadowing, field trips, mentoring, and direct participation in regional businesses.

For LSBE faculty members, the School offers opportunities to involve business practitioners with the academic world through formal or personnel exchanges, mini-internships, volunteer activities such as board and committee service, guest lectureships, practitioner’s contributions to curriculum development, and practical life-experience seminars.

LSBE’s relationship with our alumni is strengthened as alumni continue to provide opportunities for students and to supply practitioners who support LSBE programs.

LSBE atriumThese efforts are further strengthened by LSBE’s centers, boards, business institute and research bureau:

The UMD Center for Economic Development (CED) and the CED Advisory Board, is made up of business leaders from throughout the region. The CED supports the growth, diversification and stability of northeastern Minnesota's economy.

The Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) provides research on economic problems and business opportunities in the region.

The Center for Economic Education (CEE) has a mission to improve the quality and the quantity of economic education and economic literacy in the classroom, with a focus on K-12 teachers and students in Minnesota.

The LSBE Board of Advisors is the link between the Labovitz School of Business and Economics and organizations and businesses in the community the School serves. The board provides advice, assistance, strategic planning, and development actives for the School.

The LSBE Accounting Advisory Board advises the Department of Accounting and assists in maintaining a high standard of accounting education. The board promotes the availability of academic resources and provides avenues of communication that help LSBE Accounting remain responsive to the changing needs of the community.

Our business community is also well represented in LSBE by recruiters who interview graduating students and offer internships and further opportunities for learning.
