Student Affairs - Information About LSBE Opportunities

A number of special learning opportunities are available to students in LSBE. Internship experiences offer students an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills gained in the classroom to real problems of management and administration through work in sponsoring organizations. Most internships offer a salary as well as the opportunity to earn credits through a supervised work experience.

Professor for a dayThe University-wide Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides financial awards to undergraduates for research, scholarly, or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty sponsor. UROP provides the student with the unique educational experience of collaborating with a faculty member on the design and implementation of a project. At the same time, faculty have an opportunity to work closely with students and receive valuable assistance with their own research.

The School's Center for Economic Development provides special learning opportunities for students through technical assistance programs that serve the region's small businesses. Often these opportunities are student internships or positions which engage students in economic or marketing research. The Student to Business Initiative, offers opportunities for students to become involved in applying knowledge and skills to practical problems. In selected classes each semester, several student teams work directly with a business enterprise on managerial, marketing, or accounting problems and present solutions to business owners.

There are a variety of student organizations that students may join. These organizations allow the student to gain further information about the various business disciplines as well as help develop relationships with faculty and business professionals. In addition, the student organizations sponsor career shadowing, where students sign up to shadow a business professional for a day.
