Student Affairs Staff

As a graduate of the Labovitz School of Business and Economics, Tracey Bolen can relate to the trials and tribulations that business students encounter as they progress through their academic careers. Because he has experienced the realities of the LSBE curriculum, he can provide anecdotal experiences in his explanation to students about both educational and career goals/objectives.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Accounting degree in 1989 and worked as an accountant in industry performing cost and financial accounting, pricing, and internal auditing for 2 ½ years before coming to LSBE in 1991. In 1999 he obtained a Masters degree in Liberal Studies. In addition to advising and providing service to business students, he has also taught SSP 1000 - Intro to College Learning and LSBE 1101 - The Business Environment throughout his time with the Student Affairs Office.

He serves on the School's Undergraduate Committee and the Committee for Awards, Recognition, and Excellence. He has also served the campus community by serving on the Orientation Committee, Registrar's Advisory Committee, Bulldog Bash Planning Committee, Professional Staff Council, and various subcommittees of the Campus Assembly.

Candy Furo has worked at UMD for over 25 years, the last twenty years in the Labovitz School of Business and Economics. Currently, she is the Associate Administrator for the MBA Program and an academic advisor for the Student Affairs Office. She serves on the UMD Commencement Committee, Professional Advisor’s Team, LSBE’s Graduate Committee and Constitution Committee. Candy also is an instructor for the “Introduction to College Learning” course offered to freshman each fall.

Sharon Torrison, Assistant to the Dean for Student Affairs grew up valuing education as was strongly reinforced by family and early experiences. She feels it is fortunate that she loved to learn about a wide variety of subjects. However, Business is a frequent topic of conversation in her family, as her parents embarked upon a hard-working entrepreneurial adventure when she was a child, and the family business still continues. Thus, it seems natural to her to work in a business school, assisting the many students who have aspirations to succeed in their careers.

Although she began working full-time in LSBE in the summer of 1986, Sharon worked at UMD in a variety of capacities prior to that. She continues to enjoy her work in the LSBE Student Affairs Office through its many services to the students.
