Internship Abroad

Comments from Kayla Thompson, Sarah Roseen, and Jennie Kotzenmacher

The summer of 2004 internship in Ronneby , Sweden was a great experience. It integrated a consultancy class with work on a project with an outside company. For the first month, this class helped us learn what consultants do. Basically, we were then hired as consultants to do market research for a communication solutions company.

Big European technology companies such as Erickson and Telia, which are part of Celtic Technology Solutions, are developing a new product for communication technology. Right now, the primary focus is on the music industry and more specifically music festivals. This product is a PDA that allows organizations to have a wireless working network while avoiding communication problems. They are also working to develop a network that is useful to festival-goers, one that gives them more options on their cellular phones without jammed networks. This technology can be expanded to other sectors, such as emergency networks, the food industry, and sanitation management.

The first part of our research led to a great assignment – going to Hultsfred to attend the largest rock festival in Sweden . We had to determine if there is a demand in the industry and with festival-goers for this technology. From this part of our research and other aspects of our project, we gave advice on the market for this product and other potential markets, plus business models that would be effective for this new technology.
