Management Studies is introducing new course starting Spring 06 on Retailing.

Register for MGTS 4795, Section 2, Monday, 6:00-8:40 P.M. in SBE 36, taught by Dr. Ethan Christensen

Course description:

Principles of establishing and operating a retail business. Topics include retail market analysis and research, store layout, retail accounting, merchandise selection and financing, pricing, selling, advertising, budgets and current trends. Emphasis on retail management from a strategic perspective.

Course objective / outcomes:

1) Understand the significant role of retailing in today’s marketplace.
2) Develop appreciation for the interaction between a retailer’s target customer, the competitive environment, the members in the channel of distribution and the legal system within the retailer operates.
3) Comprehend the makeup and importance of the retail mix.
4) Understand the basic strategies behind key decisions in the retail industry.
5) Gain the ability to identify, analyze and explain retailing strategies being employed in the marketplace.
