The Labovitz School of Business and Economics held its fourth
annual Professor for a Day event October 20, 2004. Professor for
a Day began four years ago as a way to connect LSBE alumni with
current students and staff. Alumni are invited back to campus to
step into the roll of “Professor” for a day.
This year’s Professor for a Day began with a panel discussion
on how business has changed in the wake of corporate scandals.
The panel consisted of Colin Anderson BBA Finance ‘00 & MBA ‘02,
Financial Analyst, Northern Asset Management, Brad Christiansen
BBA’89 & MBA ‘91, Branch Manager, Piper Jaffray,
Alicia Johnson MBA ‘04, Vice President, US Bank and Fred
Shusterich BS ‘77 & MBA ’85, President, Midwest
Energy. The panelists delivered prepared remarks and then answered
questions from the audience.
Our second event was held in the Weber Music Hall. Raymond J.
Beier BAc ’78 & MBA ’86, Senior Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers
LLP, was our featured speaker. He gave his perspective on investor
confidence in the wake of Enron and led a discussion with the audience
mostly made up of LSBE students, faculty and staff.
The final Professor for a Day event was a reception in honor of
Mr. Beier at the Kitchi Gammi Club. This was an opportunity for
representatives from the Duluth business community, the University
and the Labovitz School of Business and Economics faculty, students
and staff to gain an insight into Sarbanes-Oxley section 404 by
a leader in one of the Big Four Accounting Firms.
