An additional opportunity available to students in UMD's accounting program includes participation in the UMD Accounting Club. This organization of Accounting majors and minors helps students participate in a number of career experiences. Each fall, the Accounting Club organizes a bus trip to the Minneapolis Convention Center to attend the Accounting and Auditing Student Conference, the premier informational and recruiting event for accounting students. In addition, the Club organizes on-campus information sessions, where firms and companies present information about opportunities available in professional accounting. They also organize informal social events, such as bowling, skiing, or pizza parties each semester. In the spring, the Club organizes another trip to the Twin Cities metro area to tour several of the largest companies who recruit from UMD Accounting, such as Cargill, Honeywell, Ernst & Young, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, among others. These trips provide an opportunity to network with accounting professionals while learning more about a variety of career opportunities. The club also performs an annual audit of some on-campus organizations.
