Model number: Delta Plus XP
Location: RLB 203

Description of instrument and special capabilities: This instrument is capable of measuring the stable isotope composition in a variety of samples through interfacing with different “inlet” devices. Coupled with an elemental analyzer, we can analyze C and N isotopes in bulk solid samples (such as organic matter in sediments and soils) by combustion. The EA also gives abundance of C and N. Coupled with a “Gas Bench II”, we can analyze the C isotope composition of dissolved inorganic carbon and solid phase carbonate minerals, as well as the H and O isotope composition of water. Coupled with a gas chromatograph, we can analyze the C and H isotope composition of individual organic molecules that are GC-amenable.
User charges: User charges are assessed on a per sample basis, and depend on the amount of work required by lab technicians to prepare and analyze samples.
Other useful information: Contact Josef Werne and/or technician Sarah Grosshuesch to schedule instrument time.
