Professor's Research Featured on CNN
UMD gained some national recognition when CNN featured the groundbreaking work of three U of M research scientists about new life saving innovations in emergency medicine, two of whom are UMD professors. The television special, put on by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, was called "Another Day: Cheating Death." (read more)
Building UMD's New Civil Engineering Program
In the fall of 2008, Professor Andrea Schokker was hoping that 25 students would enroll in UMDís new Department of Civil Engineering program. It would validate UMDís decision to address the need for civil engineers, both in this region and across the country. When 60 students were enrolled in the new program after the first week, it was very gratifying. "Every day, Iím more excited about this program. Itís clear, we can make an impact," Schokker said.
