UMD Responsible Employees

Under Title IX of the Education Amendments, any school that receives federal funding need to identify "Responsible Employees" to whom possible incidents of sex discrimination may be reported. Responsible Employees provide the following to individuals who make a report.
1) Responsible Employees inform an individual making a report that they have an obligation to report to a Title IX Coordinator any information the student reveals,
2) Responsible Employees explain to the individual that they have the option to ask that the institution nonetheless consider maintaining the confidentiality of that information, but that the institution may not be able to guarantee confidentiality in certain circumstances,
3) Responsible Employees advise the individual of their ability to instead share this information with counseling, advocacy, health, mental health resources who are not obligated to report it to a Title IX coordinator. (See the "Confidential Options" section on this page.)
