Fashion is art, and vintage fashions tell a story of our society and our sense of style in years past. The ladies fashions of the 1910’s, even ninety years later, are beautiful. They were made with such intricate care and skill. I would like to take a closer look at ladies dress fashions from this time period. I will research how they were constructed, the method of construction, and materials used. Since women’s clothing, along with the time it takes to create a complete dress, has changed drastically, there will be many interesting differences. After carefully studying research materials of books and clothing from the time period, I would like to re-create a wedding dress from the 1910’s that the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) has in its costume shop. This process would be very arduous since a pattern would have to be drafted from the dress first, but it would also be a very informative and hands-on way of looking at the construction of this era.

My materials will be very directly related to my research and end product. The books I need to use focus on clothing construction from the 1910’s and are necessary for patterning my final project. The materials needed for the dress include fabric, lining, hook and eyes, lace, beads, and thread. They are extremely important in recreating the dress as closely as possible
