You should know . . .
  • Field schools occur all over the world and many US universities run field schools

  • Field schools can focus on certain topics (e.g., geoarchaeology) so consider what you would like to learn

  • Look for a field school that offers 6-10 credit hours

    • < five and you may not be in the field long enough to learn the techniques properly

    • You should expect to earn 1 credit for each week in the field

  • Costs for field schools vary depending on location and lodging

    • Expect to pay for tuition, transportation to the field school area, and a food/lodging fee

  • Field schools are an excellent way to learn archaeological techniques and scientific methods, even if you are not sure you want to be a professional archaeologist!

  • Field schools are required preparation for paid employment in archaeology . . .

  • Applications will generally be due from Feb 1-April 1 so do not delay. Plan and research now!
