Empowering students to succeed

The Supportive Services Program (SSP) continually serves the UMD community through classes, workshops, academic advising, Teaching Assistant opportunities, and the UMD Tutoring Center.

"These classes will help you immensely as you transition from high school to college. They provide you with the opportunity to take your college experience by the reins so you can get the most out of your four years at UMD."

Our lower division courses are designed especially for first-and-second-year undergraduates. These classes are devoted to learning which helps ease the sometimes rocky transition to University academics.

The upper division courses offer opportunities to learn and practice communication, leadership, and teaching skills while also enriching a student's particular interest in a given discipline.

UMD Tutoring Center

Each semester, 85 to 100 undergraduate tutors provide individualized and small group instruction for peers seeking help with homework. Tutors take a training class, achieve national certification, and make it possible for the UMD Tutoring Center to be one of the nation's busiest, with almost 15,000 tutorials provided last year.
