iISSUE: 78/26
Around 6 p.m. last night, a mass e-mail was sent out to all University of Minnesota students with regards to potential identity theft:
Dear University of Minnesota Students,
It has recently come to the attention of the Student Legal Service on the Twin Cities campus that unknown individuals have attempted to obtain sensitive personal identification information from University of Minnesota students through e-mail by representing themselves to be from UMN.EDU ONLINE SERVICE. These messages request personal, private data, which may then, enable access to secure information leading to identity theft.
Do not respond to any e-mail without first confirming it is valid. Do not provide any personal information, such as student ID number or password, to any unknown third party.
The University never send e-mails requesting password information from students.
If you have responded to an e-mail requesting personal information, please contact University Student Legal Service (USLS), 160 West Bank Skyway, Twin Cities campus, (612) 624-1001. If you receive any suspicious e-mails requesting personal data, please forward these e-mails (with all headers and html) to: abuse@umn.edu.
