Minn. woman charged in beating 4-year-old boy

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)
ISSUE: 78/20

Prosecutors allege a Minneapolis woman beat her cousin’s 4-year-old boy to death after he soiled his pants.
Thirty-seven-year-old Carla Cherisse Poole is now charged with second-degree murder in the death of Demond Keith Reed. She was caring for the boy while his father, who’s from Chicago, was in jail in Minnesota.
Poole is being held in the Hennepin County jail on $1 million bail. According to a police affidavit, some of Poole’s children witnessed the beating. It says one child told police Demond had a seizure and began to vomit, but Poole refused to call for help because she was afraid.
Police found Demond’s body early Sunday after investigators began to question Poole’s original story that an acquaintance had kidnapped him.
