There is a remodeled Web site on campus where you can express your opinions on just about anything related to “the college life.” Umdstudents.com reopened this semester after a long hiatus in which the site shut down due to lack of maintenance. The site was running a few years ago, but began losing users when internet spam began to overrun it. Now the site is under new management and ready to serve the student community. “I think it can be something good for newer students,” said freshman Alex Koepsell.
Eldon Krosch Jr., a top poster on the site a few years ago, purchased the site from the previous owner and is now revamping it. He is looking to improve it from the last time it was up and running. “The previous owner got busy and didn’t live in the area, so it was hard to keep the site going,” said Krosch. According to Krosch, the site is designed to be a Web community for students to discuss whatever is on their mind, whether it’s politics, classes, news or sports. It is also a place where students can post and look for upcoming events around campus and in the area.
On the site, students can submit class and professor reviews for other students to see, which can be helpful
when trying to determine what classes to take. It also supports students posting parties on the site so other students can see what is going on around campus. Campus-sponsored events are also included on the site for anyone to see and post, according to Krosch.
The Web site is for anyone who wants to be involved in it. Any student can help out by contacting Krosch. The site is currently running and has been completely revamped from its old days. Krosch encourages students to discuss some politics on the site. Some of the things that are in the news include the recent stimulus act, the presidential race and the current state of the economy.
The forum is offered to discuss different viewpoints on almost any topic that affects UMD students. The main forum is active as of now and ready for users to access. The site plans to expand somewhat after it gains more users and subjects, according to Krosch.
