Women's Soccer

UMD women's soccer lost to defending North Central Conference (NCC) champs Minnesota State University (MSU) Mankato last Friday, 2-0. It was the Mavericks' 12th consecutive win.
The teams played scoreless through the first half, before the Mavericks' Laura Leber broke the tie at 67:12. MSU Mankato totaled 22 shots on goal, while UMD had only eight. The Bulldog women's season ended on a positive note, with a 1-0 victory over fellow NCC member St. Cloud State last Sunday. The lone goal was scored by freshman Lauren Graydon in the second half. UMD finished their season with an overall record of 7-9-1, and 5-6-1 in the NCC.
Cross Country

Senior Eric Atkinson continued his display of superb running by placing eighth out of a field of 132 runners in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II North Central Regional in Vermillion, S.D. last Saturday. This qualifies Atkinson for his third NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championship in four years as a Bulldog.
Other notables for the men's team were senior John Kalleymeyn, junior Nate Anderson and sophomore Mike Kramer, all finishing in the top 50. Sophomore Liz Palkie was also very impressive for the women, finishing 11th. Palkie also qualified for the National Championship.
Sophomore Greta Stangl, sophomore Katelyn Meger, freshman Whitney Hines and freshman Rachel Hanzal all scored points for UMD. The NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships will take place Nov. 17 in Joplin, Mo.
