Track
The Bulldogs made their presence known at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships March 14-15 in Mankato, Minn. Senior captain Jared Clementson earned All-American honors by finishing fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.14, according to the UMD Web site. Juniors Greta Stangl, Kristen Haak, Alyssa Wendt and Liz Palkie finished ninth in the women’s distance medley. Junior Cassie Corrigan took 15th place in the 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 15.97 meters.
Up next for the track team is the St. John’s Invitational this weekend in Collegeville, Minn.
Softball
UMD softball was a threat at the Rebel Springs Games in Kissimee, Fla., March 12-18, finishing with a record of 9-3. The week of action was capped off with a seven-game winning streak, according to the UMD Web site.
Junior shortstop Sonja Muck leads the team in hits with 20 and has posted a .541 batting average. Freshman
Ashley Johnson, as well as sophomores Sarah Kabes and Gina Zech, are tied for the team lead in RBIs with 10.
The Bulldogs will participate in the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) tournament this weekend in Omaha, Neb.
Baseball
Bulldog baseball also played well in recent tournament action, going 7-2 at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., during March 14-19. UMD battled UNO in a double header March 17, winning both games by one run and shutting out the Mavericks in the second game. Freshman Josh Threlkeld pitched seven scoreless innings in game two, while only allowing two hits. Junior third baseman David Olson is leading the team in hits, with 26, as well as RBIs, with 15. Senior outfielder Tony Doherty has knocked a team-high four homers.
The Bulldogs will take on Winona State today at 2 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
