Beware Email Scams

Please be aware that UMD has seen another increase in the number of scam emails coming to campus mailboxes this week. Some of these are phishing schemes, aimed at getting you to respond with your private information, such as passwords or other identification. Please remain highly suspicious of these. If you recognize them as scams, you can ignore and delete them. If you aren't sure, feel free to ask Linda Deneen at ldeneen@d.umn.edu.

Here is more information on phishing and identity theft.

Preparing for the Real World: It's Not So Scary When You Have a Plan (Webinar)

Available online after Wednesday, April 11

After more than a decade in the human resources field, including work as a college recruiter, I kept seeing the same things over and over again with our recent college graduates. Our new hires were bright in their subject matter fields, but they were often missing some critical life skills, or soft skills, that are necessary to be successful over the long haul.

It occurred to me that many of these skills aren't being taught in the classroom. In fact, many of us learned these skills in the "school of hard knocks."

Destination Real World: Success after Graduation provides 25 tips to help new college graduates navigate through the challenges of finding and keeping their first jobs and living on their own.

During our webinar, we'll discuss some of these tips, including:

  • Defining your career roadmap,
  • Writing your first resume,
  • How to prepare for an interview and beat the interview jitters, and
  • Managing employer expectations once you land your first job.
