Food and Nutrition Workshop Series

Food and Nutrition Workshop Series, Wednesdays 10am - 11am, Kirby 355-57.

The Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) is hosting a food and nutrition workshop series throughout the spring semester. Starting February 6th, SHAC is inviting a variety of campus and community experts in food and nutrition topics to present to students at UMD. The dates include: February 6, Feb. 20, March 6, March 27, April 10, April 17 and April 24. See you there!

  • Wednesday, March 6th: Ever wonder what is meant by “food sensitivities”?? find out with snacks and facts, presented by Judy Breuer, Health Education Intern.
  • After spring break: Wednesday, March 27: What does that long list of ingredients on the food label mean? Shannon Szymkowiak, Promotions and Education Manager at the Whole Foods Co-op, will help you to demystify ingredients, and understand the benefits of “whole foods”.

Minnesota Firearms Safety Course 204025

A certification from this course is a requirement to get a hunting license in the State of Minnesota (and many other states) for anyone born after 12/31/1979. This specific course is primarily for college students and adults who want to get into hunting. It will be taught by Darrell Spencer & Bill Ulvi, who have been involved in hunting and education for many years and are DNR Certified Firearms Safety Instructors. The course focuses on the safe handling of firearms and hunter responsibility and is a combination of classroom and field experience, including a session at a rifle range.

Thursdays, March 28 - April 18
6-9pm (plus a session at the rifle range)

Register By: Noon, March 11 (You must pre-register even though payment can be made at beginning of classes) We Provide: All required material, Firearms You Provide: Notebook, Pencil Meet: Bagley Nature Area Classroom Cost: $15 (payable on first day of class: $7.50 to instructors & $7.50 to the DNR via on-line payment)

Want something fun and rewarding to do this spring break? STLF is leading two spring break trips this year to Washington D.C. and Dallas, Texas. STLF's mission is to reveal leadership through service, relationships, and action. There are still spots left so come to one of our meetings every Monday in the Garden Room at 8 PM to learn more!
