Study Abroad 101

Join the International Education Office for Study Abroad 101!

Come learn the basics of studying abroad at UMD! No need to register, just show up. These informational sessions are led by a staff member in the UMD International Education Office. Often times these sessions have a small number of students who attend, so the session can be altered to fit your specific needs/questions.

This session will cover topics like: -How to choose a program -The difference between UMD and Non-UMD programs -Cost -Courses and how they transfer back to your degree at UMD -Scholarships -Financial aid -Application process

Tweevenings presents: DOUBLE VISION

Ann Klefstad will present DOUBLE VISIONS for Tweevenings.
She will look at how visuality both within and beyond the Western influence links daily life, spiritual life, and natural sciences, including math. Ann will present works by Dennis White, John Sims, and Frank Big Bear. The event is free and open to the public.

Only Two Weeks Left! Apply NOW for this Scholarship!

The deadline to apply is Friday, February 14, 2014 by 4:30 pm.

The applicants must be full time sophomore, junior or senior status UMD students enrolled for the fall of 2014 with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and have a commitment to leadership skills. Applicants must be either children or grandchildren of UMD alumni to be considered. The scholarship provides the recipient(s) with outreach opportunities as well as financial support and encourages and fosters leadership.

Send completed applications to Alumni Director Lisa Pratt, 113 Chester Park, 31 College Street, Duluth, MN 55812. Applications and accompanying documents must be received by Friday, February 14, 2014 by 4:30 pm.

Community Involvement Fair

Students, staff, and faculty interested in volunteering or a service-learning placement will have the opportunity to connect with over 45 community organizations and schools. There will be opportunities to serve in education, environmental sustainability, social justice, animal welfare, arts & culture, and health care. See you there!

Happiness 101 workshops

Happiness 101 workshops.  Solon Campus Center 21. 5-6pm, on the dates below:

  • The neuroscience of happiness: Thursday, February 27th, and repeated on Tuesday, April 1st.
  • Using your mind, to change your brain towards happiness. Thursday March 6th, and    repeated on Tuesday, April 8th.

The Happiness 101 workshops are presented by Michelle Stronach, MSW, LISW, Counselor at UMD Health Services.  Students can attend one or both workshops.  The same material will be covered in the repeated workshops in April.  Free and open to all students!! Interested in learning more about nutrition? Get it straight from a professional -- Jean Rodvold is the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for UMD Dining Services.
Topics to be included: Lesson 1: Basic components of a healthy meal & creating a balanced diet that is right for you. Lesson 2: Meal planning & grocery shopping on a budget. Lesson 3: Basic cooking skills & healthy cooking techniques.

The goal of this program is to help you gain the knowledge and skills necessary to enjoy a balanced, healthy diet for life!
