  Introduction to College Learning
SSP 1000 • 1 credit

Instructors: Bob Flagler, Shirley Reierson

Course Overview
Known as ICL, this course eases the transition from life and academics in high school to life and academics at UMD. Classes are small, so each student has opportunities to effectively explore, ask questions about, and become familiar with UMD technology and a variety of issues related to student life.

Former student's description:
"I Discovered a Plan for Moving Forward"

In ICL, I discovered and learned a lot about myself and the UMD community at large, especially in the areas of diversity, interpersonal skills, and a plan for moving forward towards graduation.
– Nishit Charadva

Former student's description:
"Greatest Opportunity To Ask Questions"

There are some definite pros to getting involved in the ICL. The class has helped me become more aware of people and events around campus. Even just going to class, I made some really good friends.

My greatest best piece of advice to students in this class: just get involved and ASK QUESTIONS! This is the greatest opportunity to ask some really good questions about how things work around here at UMD.

Your participation is what will make this class interesting to you.
– Nicholas M. Burdick

Former student's description:
"Topics Useful to Incoming Freshmen"

ICL is a great way to meet other students in the same situation when you first come into UMD. With the small classes, you really get to know your fellow classmates and make friends along the way. This class provides general ideas on a broad range of topics that are useful to incoming freshman.
