Your Orientation Experience

What to Expect

Orientation is a one-day program required for all new University of Minnesota Duluth students.  You will learn about campus resources, meet with an academic advisor, and register for fall classes. Student Advisors guide new students throughout the experience.

During Orientation, you will:

    • Learn about important campus resources available to you
    • Meet other incoming students and current UMD students
    • Receive personalized academic advising and register for courses
    • Get your U Card - your official student ID card

Steps to Register for an Orientation Session

When you receive your invitation, follow the directions for how to sign up for your Orientation session. If you have have been admitted to UMD and have NOT received an invitation, please contact our office at 218-726-6393 or sit-info@d.umn.edu.

Preparing for Your Orientation Session

Use this checklist as you plan for Orientation

    • UMD Internet ID and password
    • 7 digit student ID number
    • Photo ID (for your U Card)
    • Notebook and pen/pencil
    • Laptop or tablet computer

Check-in is in the Marshall Performing Arts Center. Free parking for Orientation is in Pay Lot G (public entrance). Student Advisors will be located at the parking lot entrance to guide you to the check-in location. Please note that if you park in another lot, your car may get ticketed.

Disability/Mobility Accommodations

UMD is committed to providing an inclusive and equitable campus environment. To request disability accommodations (including sign language interpreters and alternate format print materials), contact Disability Resources at 218-726-6130 or mcaskey@d.umn.edu as soon as possible. Some accommodations may take a few weeks to arrange.

You are also welcome to visit Disability Resources (258 Kirby Student Center) for a brief informational meeting after Orientation. However, if you would like to register with Disability Resources to arrange formal accommodations, you will need to schedule an initial appointment in advance.

Dietary Accommodations

Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available. If you are in need of additional dietary accommodation, please contact our office at (218)726-6393 two weeks prior to your Orientation date.
