Alternative plantings can be found throughout campus. A majority of these plantings are in areas that would otherwise hold sod, a high maintenance method of landscaping. Low maintenance alternative plantings help to diversify the look of our campus as well as reduce our carbon footprint.

Alternative Landscaping

Native and alternative plantings are a large portion of the landscaping on campus. These plantings are adapted to our climate and require little to no maintenance. Plantings include:

• A green roof and native grasses planted near the Civil Engineering Building.
• Rain Gardens, which help to reduce storm water runoff.
• Wildflower mixes can be found throughout campus.
