Information for Prospective Child Welfare Scholars Individuals working in or interested in committing to work in public/tribal child welfare are encouraged to apply to the Child Welfare Scholars program after their acceptance into the UMD MSW program. Students selected to become child welfare scholars receive specialized child welfare training, support, and a stipend of up to $5,000.00 per semester. In return child welfare scholars agree to complete the Child Welfare Scholars curriculum and work for a public/tribal child welfare agency for a time equivalent to the length of time they received child welfare funding. Applications are mailed to the address listed on your MSW program application. 2. Interested students mail their completed application and resume back to CW Scholar Coordinator by (roughly) mid-April. Official deadline will be included in the application packet described above. 3. Applications are reviewed and awards are offered in the beginning of May. Potential scholars must accept or decline the stipend by the end of May.
