Dr. Carpenter's primary
teaching areas are advanced practice micro, clincal social work, introduction
to research, and field seminar. He has also taught courses in crisis
intervention and solution-focused practice. He also serves as a supervisor
for Master's Projects. His special interests include helping students
identify their own personal practice models, and the incorporation
of postmodern practice approaches into the advanced generalist perspective.
Prior to coming to UMD,
Dr. Carpenter taught in three other universities, most recently at
Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario where he is Professor
Emeritus. He has some fifteen years of full-time practice in psychiatric
and child welfare settings involving direct practice as well as various
supervisory and consultative roles.
