Mary Ness earned undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Communications and her Master of Social Work degree at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She has taught as an adjunct instructor in the M.S.W. program since 2004, and in the undergraduate program since 2002. Mary's classes have included Field I and II, Organizations and Community, and Social Work with Diverse Populations. Mary works full time as a child protection social worker for St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services responding to child maltreatment reports through Investigative and Family Assessment responses. Mary conducts forensic interviews as a member of the First Witness interdisciplinary team and provides community education on Mandated Reporting of Child Abuse. Prior to her work in child protection Mary worked for 18 years at the battered women's shelter in Duluth.
