Divine Savior Healthcare-Hosptial is owned and operated by the Sisters of Divine Savior.  Divine Savior Healthcare Inc. is deeply committed to a process of continually improving the quality of care and services provided as an integral part of the Church’s healing ministry to all persons. The agency serves people of all ages, all nationalities, and of all socioeconomic groups. In the rural area the hospital primarily serves the elderly on the medical/surgical floor. The average length of stay is 2-3 days, but can be longer depending on the needs.  There is also a swing bed program where individuals can stay an extra 4-7 days for rehabilitation in the hospital.   There is an outpatient dialysis unit. Social work is provided in the OB department, intensive care unit, emergency room, outpatient surgery, outpatient clinics, and home care. There is also social work staff in the 100 bed nursing home.

The placement would be primarily in the hospital, where we provide a large variety of medical care. As social workers we meet individually with patients, assessing social service needs, and develop a plan for discharge. Our challenges include working not only with the elderly, but with mental health patients that may be under police holds for mental commitments, alcoholic and drug dependent patients who come here for detox, and individuals in need of guardianship and placement.  We do a great deal of work with Advance Directives. We assist people with drafting the documents, and educating the community about the need for them. We also have opportunities in our dialysis unit for assessing patients, and longer term case management.
