Agency Description:

Northwood Children's Services is a private, not-for-profit, multi-service agency that provides professional care, education, and treatment for boys and girls with emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities. A continuum of quality programs is offered to meet the unique needs of children of different ages, capacities, races, and creeds. The Chester Creek Intensive Day Treatment program provides day treatment skills groups, group and individual therapy, and case management for students typically age 12-18.  During the school day children attend Chester Creek Academy or may do partial days in public schools.  They participate in day treatment skills groups after lunch and at the end of the day when they also receive group therapy.  Northwood Children’s Services additionally provides residential care for students who need around the clock supervision, aftercare services for students transitioning back into the community, and Community Alternatives for Disabled Individual homes.

Description of Field Activities

The student would be involved in the Chester Creek Intensive Day Treatment program on the Main Campus (across from UMD).  The student would participate in and co-facilitate skills groups.  They would monitor students’ progress on their goals by completing daily progress notes or write in communication logs to send to parents/foster parents at the end of each day.
