#158. Boats on a Mountain Lake.

14 x 20, oil on canvas with 1.5" rip in lower center. Signed on the front. Roger Belson, an author of whitemountainart.com, makes a compelling case that this painting depicts Black Mountain on the eastern shore of Lake George, as viewed from the western shore. This article on J. F, Kensett, who painted there a lot, is convincing. Descended from Roger Munger, Gilbert's brother, through the family to the last owner. The painting was discarded by the owner after it got damaged. Image from a photo provided by J. Gray Sweeney.
