From the Lyman A. Mills estate to Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, sale 801 in October 1946. Then sold again for $30 at Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, sale 819 of 10 - 14 December 1946, as lot 178. IAP 61504385. From that catalog: "A darkening sky reflects in the smooth water of a lake outlining the surrounding mountains. In the foreground, a rocky slope with a woman standing at the right. Exhibited at the Royal Academy, London, 1879, no. 114."
