Chance on Tap: Poetry Reading and Book Release with Kathleen Roberts and guests

February 20, 2018 | 6-8 pm

Sax Brothers Gallery

The Tweed Museum of Art invites you to Chance on Tap, an event developed in conjunction with the current multi-media installation Chance by Kathy McTavish.

This first Chance on Tap celebrates the Reading and Book Release of Chance ::: Poems at Tweed Museum of Art, UMD.

A quartet of poets, Michael Kleber-Diggs, Julie Gard, Sheila Packa, Kathleen Roberts have their work brought together into a book with full color visual art by Kathy McTavish. The poems are also coded spaces that explore the intimate relationship people have through their devices to a rapidly developing networked omniscient intelligence.

Tweevening with Bill Shipley about Treasures from Home: The Anthology of Gifts From Collectors

February 6, 2018 | 6:30-8 pm

Main Gallery

Bill Shipley will talk about the practice of collecting and will offer personal stories about collectors he knows from the past and present. The recent obituary of Eugene Victor Thaw and his history as a collector will introduce the audience to the philosophy of both collecting and giving back to the community. The gift of ceramics by his friend and neighbor Pat Joyelle will be a fine, current example of collecting and then parting with works of art.

Biography:

Bill Shipley is an artist and a retired teacher who has benefited the museum, our visitors, and the artistic community for nearly a decade. He has dedicated many hours to the museum as a guide and tour leader, especially on weekends and special occasions. He has also provided invaluable research and insights on works of art in the collection, which he shares with visitors and school groups. As a professional artist, Bill has created important works of art and contributed to our regional art community. He is a passionate advocate for area artists and a valued interpreter of the arts at the Tweed Museum.
