Selected Illustrations of Royal Canadian Moutned Police from the Potlatch Collection
May 23 – September 7, 2008
Between 1931 and 1970, Northwest Paper Co. of Cloquet, MN (which merged with Potlatch Corp. in 1964) commissioned 16 different artists to create nearly 400 advertising illustrations for its paper products. The image of the “Mountie” (of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police) was chosen because of the strength and dependability it represented.
In 1981, the Potlatch Corp. donated the entire collection of illustrations to the Tweed Museum of Art, where selections from the collection are on display each summer.
