Sister Mary Charles McGough, a Cloquet-born artist who was a Benedictine sister of St. Scholastica Monastery, is the subject of a summer-long exhibition at the Tweed Museum of Art.

“Sister Mary Charles: Engagement and Transcendence” has its opening reception at 6 p.m. Tuesday and the exhibit will be available for viewing through Sept. 21.

The book “Saved By Beauty,” published by the monastery, will be released at the opening.

McGough was a popular regional artist who worked in woodcut prints, fabric, graphic design, mosaic and stained glass. Later in her career, she began painting icons.

The exhibit is a collaboration between the Tweed and St. Scholastica Monastery and is curated by Peter Spooner.
