#108. Near Marlotte.

  12 x 18, oil on panel. "Gilbert Munger" lower left. A faded handwritten label on the reverse is reported as showing "Near Marlotte." The Hanover Gallery in London listed painting(s) with this title at their 1889-90 Winter Exhibition and their 1890 Summer Exhibition. Sold at Ziemann Kunstauktionhaus, Bremen Germany, auction of 21 November 1994, as lot 126 Landscape with Angler and Cows for DM 2000 + premium. Bought-in at Neumeister Kunstauktionen, Munich, auction 4451, 20 March 1996, lot 686 Near Charlotte; est DM 9000. Bought-in at Christie's Amsterdam sale of 26 October 1999, lot 87; est NLG 6000 - 8000. The village of Marlotte was located about 15 km SE from the village of Barbizon in France, an area where Munger painted extensively. Marlotte has now merged with the neighboring settlement and is called the "the Bourron-Marlotte commune." Image from Neumeister, Munich, auction catalog.
