e-payment?
1) What is e-billing?
Students will receive bills for tuition and fees electronically.
A notice that the online bill is available will be sent to the
student's University assigned e-mail account usually during the
first week of the term. Billing statements list the amount owed,
the minimum payment due, and a due date. Bills will include charges
such as tuition, fees, university housing, bookstore and miscellaneous
charges.
2) What is e-payment?
Electronic payment, also know as e-payment, is being offered
to students as a service by the University of Minnesota. Electronic
billing of charges is required, however electronic payment of
these charges is optional. Student's can enter their checking
account, savings account or credit card account information on
a protected server and payments will be direct debited when the
student submits their request.
3) Why is the University
going to mandatory e-billing?
There are several reasons why the University has decided to make
e-billing required. One reason is that many other applications
and processes at the University are paperless or electronic including
applying for admissions, applying and accepting financial aid,
and processing student refunds via direct deposit. Electronic
billing continues this mission. The vast majority of our students
are familiar and comfortable with the web culture on campus and
it has become more commonplace these days to perform many daily
transactions and communications via e-mail and the Internet. Also,
during these times of economic hardship, electronic billing brings
savings to the University the expensive and time consuming production
of hundreds of thousands of paper billing statements. Many institutions
around the country are now adopting electronic billing as their
primary method of billing.
4) I don't have a bank
account or credit card (or I don't feel comfortable paying my bill
online). How do I pay my bill?
E-billing is required, but paying by E-payment is optional. You
can still pay your bill by printing a copy of the bill from the
web, then sending it in with a check, money order, traveler's
check, or cashier's check written out to the University of Minnesota
and mailed to Cashiers Office 140 Darland Administration Building,
Duluth, MN 55812. You can also make payment in person at the Cashiers
Office, Window 11 or 12 lobby Darland Administration Building
or the drop box located next to Window 11. Please note that e-payment
online is safe and secure and is certified by VeriSign, the nation's
largest online payment verification provider. Paying online is
much easier and convenient than paying by mail and saves you time
and money!
5) Do you accept payments
from non-United States bank accounts or credit cards?
No. Any e-payments must be direct debited from a U. S. bank account.
We are unable to accept foreign credit cards or payments from
foreign bank accounts.
6) What are the benefits
of e-billing and e-payment?

late fees

waiting in line to pay

7) Can I pay by
credit card for my e-payment?
Yes, but only as an online service of UMPay. The University
will not accept credit card payments through the mail, in person
or over the phone. You or your authorized payers may make student
account payments with a Master Card, DISCOVER, or American Express
credit card (VISA is not a participant). You will be required
to pay a separate, non-refundable service charge - 2.75 percent
of the payment amount - at the time of each credit card payment.
The nonrefundable service charge, assessed by our vendor infiNET,
will appear as a separate line item on your (or your authorized
payer's) credit card statement.
8) Can I use a credit card
check or investment account to pay online?
No. Credit card check accounts or investment account checks,
commonly called credit card convenience checks or advance checks,
cannot be used for electronic payment in UMPay.
9) How can my parents
pay my billing?
With the e-billing program, you can set up your parent(s) or
other authorized payers to make payments on your behalf.
10) Do I have to be on e-billing?
Are there exceptions to e-billing? Can't I get a paper bill instead
of (or in addition to) the e-bill?
Students who are not enrolled or have past due balances will
be exempt from the e-bill process. Exemptions for other reasons,
such as disability concerns, can be requested by completing the
E-billing Exemption Appeal Form. These forms will be reviewed
by a committee to determine if the reason requested is valid to
produce paper bills on a temporary or permanent basis. If you
want a paper copy of your bill, you can download and print a copy
of your bill online as well. Copies of your e-bills will be kept
on file for the past 12 months if you want to view or print them
out.
11) How do I log in?
Watch your U of M email account for your e-bill notification
on each bill date. Bill dates are listed on the web. When you
get your e-bill, you will click on a link to a secure server and
you will enter in your University Internet ID and Password. To
keep all data confidential, don't share your passwords with anyone.
After you login, you can view your e-bill, print a copy of the
bill, forward the bill to someone in an e-mail, sign up authorized
users, and make an e-payment. Make sure to logout or close your
browser when finished with ebill/epay.
The important thing to remember is to check your U of M email
account. If you have problems with your e-mail account, contact
the ITSS help desk at 218-726-8847.
12) Where is the due date on
the bill?
Click on view accounts to get the latest statement. The billing
statement will show the current activity on your account, the
account balance, minimum payment due and due date. If you cannot
locate this information you may have logged into the wrong application.
13) Does the University
charge for e-billing or e-payment?
No, the University offers this service free of charge. However,
if you choose to make a payment in UMPay with a credit card, you
will be assessed a 2.75 percent non-refundable service charge
on the amount of the payment by our credit card vendor, infiNET.
All costs for choosing to pay with a credit card must be assumed
by you or your authorized payer. The University does not receive,
nor will it underwrite any portion of the non-refundable service
charge.
