TEAMSTERS

See Article XXII – 22.1 Premium Pay for contract language: Teamster employees who are assigned a shift that begins 6:00 a.m. or which ends after 7:00 p.m. are to receive a differential of fifty five cents ($.55) per hour for all hours worked on that shift in addition to their regular rate of pay.

Employees who work a day schedule who are required to work overtime or who are called back to work for special projects are not eligible for the shift differential.

An additional fifteen cents ($.15) per hour resulting in a shift differential of seventy cents ($.70) per hour, will be paid to all employees working an assigned shift that begins between 9:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m.

See Section 22.2 for contract language: Employees working a continuous rotating shift schedule, or a continuous alternating shift schedule will receive the fifty five cent ($.55) shift differential for all hours worked.

See Section 22.3: An Employee who is schedule to work a shift that is eligible for shift differential pay will receive the shift differential payment for an absence that is due to a legitimate usage of sick leave, if the employee has a minimum balance of twenty five (25) sick days accrued and available for use.

AFSCME TECHNICAL

Section 6 for contract language: Shift differential of $.60 cents per hour will be paid to employees whose work shift begins before 6:00 a.m. or ends on or after 7:00 p.m. and are scheduled by their supervisor for a total shift of at least six (6) hours in duration. STUDENT EMPLOYEES

Shift Differential (from UMD Student Employment Supervisor's Handbook) - Student employees who are assigned to work regularly scheduled shifts of at least six hours in duration are eligible for a shift differential of $.60 per hour. These work shifts must begin before 6:00 a.m. or end on or after 7:00 p.m.

Regularly Scheduled Shift - this is a very common term and is meant to distinguish between a regular or defined work schedule from those that are on-call, or cover variable work hours (e.g. special events).

A good working definition is as follows: "Working hours scheduled in a recurring pattern on a continuing basis."

Student employees are only eligible for shift differential if they work a regularly scheduled shift that begins before 6:00 a.m. or ends on or after 7:00 p.m.

CLARIFICATION: Student employees who work on-call or variable schedules are [not] eligible for shift differential pay.

All UMD units are required to pay shift differential to student employees who meet the above criteria.
