| "Hi! My name is Katie. This
is my second year participating in Take Our Daughters to Work. I love
going! Coming here is important to me because it helps prove that
women and men are equal in all ways by showing that women can do any
job men can. Since I found out about the cool stuff you can do at
UMD I've wanted to do everything there! Last year when I went, I found
out that I liked photography. This year I found out that I like the
military. So I think I'll be a photo journalist for the military.
I can't believe that there's so many jobs open to me that I like.
I want to come again! Thanks for having this great program for us." |
I think that the whole program "Take
Our Daughters to Work" day is very important. It helps girls
learn what's out there for them in their future. The program also
offers lots of fun and excitement for everyone. The instructors that
we learn from are role models to us. They are examples for us and
show us that anything boys can do, so can girls, if not better! I
have gone to this program for 2 years and loved all of it. I remember
when there were just enough people to fit in the Garden Room. This
year though, there were so many girls. This program has grown a lot
through the years and I am happy that more girls found out about it
and have had some great experiences. I love coming to the classes
and learning new, exciting things every time. For example, in the
Access Center class, I learned some sign language and how deaf people
communicate. I also learned that the WRAC center on the UMD campus
is just a really cool place for girls to hang out and have fun with
friends. The UMD program Take Our Daughters to Work Day teaches us
so many things and has a wide variety of classes for us to do so we
can see what we might want to be or do when we get older. There are
so many options out there and the Take Our Daughters to Work Day helps
us decide. I would encourage all girls to come to this program, it's
FUN!" |
"I've been going to the Take
Your Daughters to Work program at UMD for 5 years. But I've been going
to work with my mom for the past 8 years. Take Your Daughters to Work
day is a great experience for the kids as well as the adults. It's
a fun learning experience that only happens once a year. I think that
the most important thing is the goal of the program. It lets girls
know that they can do anything they want to do if they put their minds
and their hearts into it. Another important thing is how you get to
learn of new opportunities every year. So once you put your interests
together and find the perfect job for you, then you can set your goals
forward. And the knowledge of many new opportunities can help you
decide which track is the right one for you to follow. For me, I've
found out that my interests lay in math, science, art, and writing.
So who knows, I might even be the best pediatrician who writes many
famous books, and be a famous artist, mathematician, and a scientist.
During the lunch time, we usually have extraordinary people speak
to us about their jobs and how they got there. But the basic story
is how they didn't listen to what anyone else said and did what career
they wanted to. Such stories are very good for the formation of the
many young minds that attend the program. If it wasn't for the Take
Your Daughters to Work day, I would not know anything about what I
wanted to be, or what I could be. And that is what is most important
to me." |
