Description of Workshop

Financial Aid and Registrar/ UCard Office Financial Aid/Registrar's Office will issue a U-card between 7:00-8:00 a.m. and 12:30-1:30 p.m. to all girls participating. Girls can just go to the U-card office during the time specified.

Come to this "hands-on" workshop ready to discover a new language - American Sign Language! You will learn some sign language and learn about the process of interpreting from both interpreters and deaf consumers.
 
Admissions Campus tour guides will give you a tour of the UMD campus and residence halls.
 
Admissions Do you want to be a UMD Bulldog? Find out what counts for college, admission courses to take, grades to earn, and tests to prepare for when you are planning to go to college.
 
Air Force ROTC What is it like to be in the military service? Do you know that there are different branches in the military? Air Force is one of them and we will find out what it's like to be in the Air Force.

Learn how to take digital photos and how to do some fun tricks with editing photos on the computer.
 
Electrical and Computer Engineering "Experimenting with electronics and computers." In this presentation, you will learn some of the things that electrical and computer engineers do. We will have some experiments that will help you learn about these exciting fields in engineering.
   
Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Women in Sports Medicine....Come to this interactive session and learn what to do when an injury occur. Prevention of sport related injuries is important but sometimes unavoidable. You will learn about recognizing an injury, the RICE principle, and will see a demonstration of taping an ankle.
   
Health Services A woman nurse, doctor, and counselor will show you how our body and mind work together. You will learn more about each profession.
   
Information Technology Systems and Services What is Information Technology? It is Email, the Internet, software, programming, and more! We will focus on web development - we'll use digital cameras to take photos, then add these photos to the personal web pages we create.
   
Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium Come and explore the wonders of the universe! We will search through the sky to learn about constellations in it!
   

Outdoor Program

 

Do you know there are full-time careers available in teaching people about the outdoors? Outdoor/Environmental Education and Recreation are some of the fastest growing fields today. They invite educators to teach skills such as rock climbing, sea kayaking and, backpacking while introducing students to the splendor of the natural world. Come to this workshop to learn more about this field and how you can have a career in the great outdoors!
   
UMD Stores Do you like shopping? The world of retail stores can be very exciting! Come and tour UMD Stores (Campus Books, Marketplace, Bulldog Shop, and Computer Corner) and have some fun running a cash register, answering phones, stocking shelves, and asisting customers. Special bonus offer to those who attend this workshop!

Women's Resource and Action Center In this workshop, you will be exploring possible careers for you in the future. You will learn about careers women have had and presently hold. You will have the opportunity to make posters about these careers.
