with departments and/or employees experiencing difficulty adjusting
to medical conditions.
Facilitator: Mary Harris, M.S., CRC., is a Disability Specialist
who provides services to University employees with medical conditions,
and assistance to supervisors and departments who employ them. |

a human reaction to stressful situations. This is a good summary
of ways both the giver and receiver of feedback can understand

Many of us at UMD can probably say that we have excellent employees;
they come to work on time; are focused; and do the best work they
can each day.
However, on occasion, some employees can get off track. Getting
them back on track can be challenging and is one of the most critical
functions that supervisors and manager perform.
This session is intended to provide you with information to assist
you in recognizing when employees have gotten off track and set
standards for excellent performance.
Hopefully, you will leave with a better understanding of how
to:
1. Set performance standards and measure results;
2. Confront substandard behavior in a positive way; and
3. Handle problem behavior in a timely and logical manner.

and help reduce some of the anxiety that can accompany it. You'll
come away with a better understanding of what your boss, peers,
staff and the University expect from you.
You will learn to:
- Understand your new role-from your perspective and that of
your boss, peers and subordinates
- Establish a presence and build credibility
- Understand what motivates peers, employees and superiors
- Gain awareness of basic laws and regulations as they apply
to getting your work done
- Have a successful experience.
Who Should Attend: Recently promoted supervisors and those who
hope soon to be promoted to that role.
Facilitators: Judith S. Karon and Mary L. Cameron. Judith
is the Director and Mary is the Associate Director with
the UMD Department of Human Resources.
