Supervising Student Employees

Student employees are an important factor in the success of our UMD services to the campus. For supervisors, they offer a unique set of challenges and rewards. This session will provide an overview of the process for recruiting and hiring student employees and will provide guidelines for their effective management.
Participants will learn:
• Steps, rules and policies associated with the hiring process.
• How important is it to create performance standards/outcomes for student employees?
• And participate in a discussion – Are the needs of student employees different from other employees when it comes to interviewing, orientation, training, scheduling, motivation, and performance management?

Facilitator: Mary L. Cameron is the Associate Director/Director of Student Employment with UMD Department of Human Resources.

UMD Workers' Compensation Update

This session will cover important changes to the University's Workers' Compensation policy and procedures.  It is important for all supervisors, managers, and departmental liaisons to attend one of the sessions. 

Facilitators: Judith Karon, Director of UMD Department of Human Resources; and Cathy Rackliffe, Workers' Compensation Coordinator for UMD campus.

Development Coaching

Understand what development coaching is and learn the difference between development and performance coaching. 

Become proficient in the four skills of development coaching:  Building Relationships, Setting Direction, Being Accountable and Seeing Results.

Practice skill building in providing development coaching.

Facilitator:Patty Samberg has a twelve year history of working with the U of M serving the campuses of Duluth, Twin Cities, Morris, and Crookston on various training topics related to Enterprise Financial System, Human Resource Management System, Sponsored Projects, Effort as well as Business Management Topics.
